Journals, reports, and evaluation of Friends Peace Service work, 1949-1961.

Journals, reports, and surveys written by Harold Chance documenting his visits to and continuing relationships as an AFSC staff member with Evangelical Friends meetings, mostly in the western United States. The collection includes nine journals, 1949-1956, Friends Peace Service evaluation surveys, 1956 & n.d., and a number of miscellaneous reports to Friends Peace Service Council. Among the former is a report on the Second American Conference of Evangelical Friends (1950) and one on the Student Conference on Peace and International Relations (1955).

Harold J. Chance was the Director of Friends Peace Service of the American Friends Service Committee from 1943 to 1962. The son of John and Mabel Wood Chance of Hardin County, Iowa, Harold married Wannitta Allee in Oskaloosa in 1924. After his retirement, Chance moved to Florida where he died in 1975.
